UK Movie Releases - September 2019

Fourteen films lurking in the depths of September, four of which I'm quite interested in checking out. It does feel like they're trying to gear us up for a spine chilling October.

Which of September's releases are you looking forward to the most?

6th September 2019

It Chapter Two - Starring Bill SkarsgĂ„rd, James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain. Twenty-seven years after their first encounter with the terrifying Pennywise, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.

Noooooooooooope.

13th September 2019

Downton Abbey - Starring Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville and Imelda Staunton. The continuing story of the Crawley family, wealthy owners of a large estate in the English countryside in the early 20th century.

I've never watched a whole episode of Downton, but the few times I've caught part of one it's looked interesting. Potentially this is going to get me hooked on something else to binge watch.

Hustlers - Starring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez and Julia Stiles. Inspired by the viral New York Magazine article, Hustlers follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

I love J Lo in films, and this one looks like it's got a lot of potential to it.

★ Night Hunter - Starring Alexandra Daddario, Henry Cavill and Ben Kingsley. A weathered lieutenant, his police force, and a local vigilante are all caught up in a dangerous scheme involving a recently arrested, troubled man who's linked to years of female abductions and murders.

This is my sort of thriller, it's got a great cast who should be able to deliver on this one.

18th September 2019

Ad Astra - Starring Brad Pitt, Liv Tyler, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland. An astronaut travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. He uncovers secrets which challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

Are we at third times the charm with this one? Trailers have been running already at the cinema so I can't see it moving again. Solid lead cast with an interesting story, but I think I'll have to wait until it's out for any more thoughts on it.

20th September 2019

★ The Kitchen - Starring Melissa McCarthy, Domhnall Gleeson and Elisabeth Moss. The wives of New York gangsters in Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s continue to operate their husbands' rackets after they're locked up in prison.

Writing this post is the first time I've come across The Kitchen, it's definitely getting a star. Melissa McCarthy has proved she can do drama, and I'm excited to see Tiffany Haddish doing the same thing.

Rambo: Last Blood - Starring Sylvester Stallone. Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission.

I've never seen a Rambo film, I can't really give any opinion on this one. At the very least it should be some good action.

The Report - Starring Adam Driver, Jon Hamm and Annette Benning. In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, CIA agents begin using extreme interrogation tactics on those they think were behind it.

I can't see a trailer of this one so the link above is for an interview conducted at Sundance. It's an Amazon Studios release, and in the US they're getting a theatrical release followed by a Prime Video release a couple of weeks later so potentially we're looking at the same over here.

27th September 2019

21 Bridges - Starring Chadwick Boseman, J.K. Simmons and Sienna Miller. A disgraced detective in the NYPD is given a shot at redemption.

Gritty looking crime thriller. You can definitely see influences in the trailer, this should be a big box office draw.

The Goldfinch - Starring Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson and Finn Wolfhard. A boy in New York is taken in by a wealthy Upper East Side family after his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

I've not read Donna Tartt's novel and I don't think I will be, especially after watching this rather bleak trailer.

Hotel Mumbai - Starring Dev Patel and Armie Hammer. The true story of the Taj Hotel terrorist attack in Mumbai. Hotel staff risk their lives to keep everyone safe as people make unthinkable sacrifices to protect themselves and their families.

This popped up in May's releases originally but it's shunted back to September. Still looks like a good film, but I'm a little less excited about it now.

★ The Hunt - Starring Emma Roberts and Hilary Swank. Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don't know where they are, or how they got there. They don't know they've been chosen - for a very specific purpose - The Hunt.

This teaser trailer is wonderfully done, I only had to see "Blumhouse Productions" pop up to know this is going to be something fun... in a traumatising way.

Poms - Starring Diane Keaton, Rhea Perlman and Pam Grier. POMS is a comedy about a group of women who form a cheerleading squad at their retirement community, proving that you're never too old to 'bring it!'

Honestly, this looks like it could be fun. I love a cheerleader movie so it's nice to seem them diversify a bit!

★ Ready Or Not - Starring Andie MacDowell and Adam Brody. A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.

Another messed up film that's right up my alley... can't wait for this one!

Happy watching!
