Normally I wouldn't weigh in on awards list unless I've seen all the films nominated for a category... but it's the internet and that's not what we do is it! So I've put my thoughts below, you'll notice a couple with no comments where I don't even have an inkling about them. You may also see some stars, this is because I will be seeing Bombshell this evening so I'm reserving judgment until I return from the cinema!
There are a lot of films and actors that I'm surprised aren't represented in these lists but this is the very nature of critiquing film, everyone has their own opinion.
1917 Pippa Harris, Callum McDougall, Sam Mendes, Jayne-Ann Tenggren
THE IRISHMAN Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, Martin Scorsese, Emma Tillinger Koskoff
JOKER Bradley Cooper, Todd Phillips, Emma Tillinger Koskoff
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD David Heyman, Shannon McIntosh, Quentin Tarantino
PARASITE Bong Joon-ho, Kwak Sin-ae
With 1917 coming up this Friday at the cinema I'll definitely come back and update my thoughts on this but as it stands I've only seen the last three on the list. I have tried to watch The Irishman but it's very dry and I haven't been able to make it very far in. None of these films scream best film to me though.
1917 Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Callum McDougall, Jayne-Ann Tenggren, Krysty Wilson-Cairns
BAIT Mark Jenkin, Kate Byers, Linn Waite
FOR SAMA Waad al-Kateab, Edward Watts
ROCKETMAN Dexter Fletcher, Adam Bohling, David Furnish, David Reid, Matthew Vaughn, Lee Hall
SORRY WE MISSED YOU Ken Loach, Rebecca O’Brien, Paul Laverty
THE TWO POPES Fernando Meirelles, Jonathan Eirich, Dan Lin, Tracey Seaward, Anthony McCarten
I have For Sama to watch but out of the rest I've only seen Rocketman, I don't even have enough background on some to have an opinion worth listening to!
BAIT Mark Jenkin (Writer/Director), Kate Byers, Linn Waite (Producers)
FOR SAMA Waad al-Kateab (Director/Producer), Edward Watts (Director)
MAIDEN Alex Holmes (Director)

Just put a big shrug here.
THE FAREWELL Lulu Wang, Daniele Melia
FOR SAMA Waad al-Kateab, Edward Watts
PAIN AND GLORY Pedro Almodóvar, Agustín Almodóvar
PARASITE Bong Joon-ho
PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE Céline Sciamma, Bénédicte Couvreur
With For Sama in my TBW pile and The Farewell coming out on blu-ray on Monday I'm also coming up short here. I thought Pain and Glory was good but I wouldn't have put it above Everybody Knows that sadly hasn't made the list.
AMERICAN FACTORY Steven Bognar, Julia Reichert
APOLLO 11 Todd Douglas Miller
DIEGO MARADONA Asif Kapadia
FOR SAMA Waad al-Kateab, Edward Watts
THE GREAT HACK Karim Amer, Jehane Noujaim
Another list that I can't really weigh in on, I haven' come across some of these at all and sadly they don't make it to my easily accessible cinemas.
FROZEN 2 Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee, Peter Del Vecho
KLAUS Sergio Pablos, Jinko Gotoh
A SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE: FARMAGEDDON Will Becher, Richard Phelan, Paul Kewley
TOY STORY 4 Josh Cooley, Mark Nielsen
Finally! One where I've seen them all! This is a tough choice as two of these films made my top five this year. Klaus is a beautifully animated film with immense heart, while I adored Farmageddon I would have to give the accolade to Klaus. I can see it easily becoming a family classic.
As for the other two, I'm not sure I'd be happy giving an award to a film from a franchise that didn't bring anything new to the table. Toy Story 4 was a lovely film and despite the fact it resurrected a franchise that was nicely capped off it did manage to not quite ruin it. Frozen 2 however didn't improve on the first for me, to come out and not be able to remember a single song felt like a bit of a Disney crime to me.
1917 Sam Mendes
THE IRISHMAN Martin Scorsese
JOKER Todd Phillips
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD Quentin Tarantino
PARASITE Bong Joon-ho
I'll be honest, I have no strong feelings about any of the ones I've seen here.
BOOKSMART Susanna Fogel, Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Katie Silberman
KNIVES OUT Rian Johnson
MARRIAGE STORY Noah Baumbach
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD Quentin Tarantino
PARASITE Han Jin Won, Bong Joon-ho
I wouldn't know how to judge this one, I've seen all five of these films and none of them overall ranked very highly for me. Parasite would probably edge out the others for me, though I be hard pushed to argue for it over another in an open forum.
THE IRISHMAN Steven Zaillian
JOJO RABBIT Taika Waititi
JOKER Todd Phillips, Scott Silver
LITTLE WOMEN Greta Gerwig
THE TWO POPES Anthony McCarten
I've seen neither of the Netflix offerings but out of the three others I'm likely to pick Joker over Little Women, only because I feel like Little Women had something it had to stick to slightly more in the long run.

TOM HANKS A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

JOE PESCI The Irishman
BRAD PITT Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood
Out of the two I have seen I would have to go with Hanks for the win, Pitt was good in OUATIH but he's was still just Brad Pitt, I'm not sure I've seen a film where he has totally immersed himself in a character.
1917 Thomas Newman
JOJO RABBIT Michael Giacchino
JOKER Hildur Guđnadóttir
LITTLE WOMEN Alexandre Desplat
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER John Williams
Ugh, I just don't know... probably Rise of Skywalker?
JOKER Shayna Markowitz
MARRIAGE STORY Douglas Aibel, Francine Maisler
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD Victoria Thomas
THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD Sarah Crowe
THE TWO POPES Nina Gold
From the three I've seen I'd probably say Once Upon A Time In Hollywood had the most consistent set of actors, never mind the fact I didn't like the film, they all gave a fitting performance for their roles. I am interested to see The Personal History of David Copperfield though as the cast seems to be quite diverse and it's intriguing to me after having seen the trailers.
1917 Roger Deakins
THE IRISHMAN Rodrigo Prieto
JOKER Lawrence Sher
LE MANS ’66 Phedon Papamichael
THE LIGHTHOUSE Jarin Blaschke
We come to the completely uneducated part of the list for me now... I have yet to see 1917 but I don't think it would be able to top the efforts of The Lighthouse, again, it might not be one I loved but the style and techniques involved were amazing.
THE IRISHMAN Thelma Schoonmaker
JOJO RABBIT Tom Eagles
JOKER Jeff Groth
LE MANS ’66 Andrew Buckland, Michael McCusker
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD Fred Raskin
All four on this list that I've seen certainly don't have me wondering how they made the cut. Until I learn more about the art of editing my only real opinion can come from things that stick out as being "wrong" or uncomfortable on the eye to watch. That being said though, I did read some behind the scenes information about Le Mans '66, the driving sequences were shot on several different tracks and then put together the make one whole piece. That sounds like an incredible task all round to me.
1917 Dennis Gassner, Lee Sandales
THE IRISHMAN Bob Shaw, Regina Graves
JOJO RABBIT Ra Vincent, Nora Sopková
JOKER Mark Friedberg, Kris Moran
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD Barbara Ling, Nancy Haigh
On a limited list again I would probably go with Joker, the Batman world always tends to be a little dark (unless we go back in time) but the tone for everything seemed to mirror Joker perfectly.
THE IRISHMAN Christopher Peterson, Sandy Powell
JOJO RABBIT Mayes C. Rubeo
JUDY Jany Temime
LITTLE WOMEN Jacqueline Durran
ONCE UPON A TIME… IN HOLLYWOOD Arianne Phillips
Honestly a little surprised to not see Rocketman on here, again this is one that was brought to my attention by a behind the scenes video done on the costumes and it seems to be a bit of a faux pas to omit it. I'm going to pick Little Women though as I think it deserves it for those amazing dresses.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME Dan Deleeuw, Dan Sudick
THE IRISHMAN Leandro Estebecorena, Stephane Grabli, Pablo Helman
THE LION KING Andrew R. Jones, Robert Legato, Elliot Newman, Adam Valdez
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Roger Guyett, Paul Kavanagh, Neal Scanlan, Dominic Tuohy
I may come back to this after seeing 1917 but out of the others Endgame is the clear winner here. Rise of Skywalker and Lion King had flaws that are difficult to overlook, no matter how much I love BB-8 zipping around, and The Irishman's deaging process didn't look all that good in the bits I saw.

As it is though I'd have to pick Kaitlyn Dever, I really have enjoyed the roles that I've seen her in and I can see her working well in a lot of different genres, I'm certain there are more good things ahead. I initially looked at this list and found Awkwafina to be an odd inclusion, in my head it already feels like she's mainstream but looking at her credited roles there are a lot less than I thought... maybe after I've seen The Farewell I'll be back to amend this choice.
