UK Movie Releases - February 2020

24 films in February's offering, 5 of those I'm really looking forward to with many more looking like they could be something good. Check out the schedule below and click on the titles to zip over to YouTube to watch the trailers.

Which of February releases are you looking forward to the most?

7th February 2020

Birds Of Prey - Starring Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ewan McGregor. After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.

If nothing else this is going to be nuts and I just can't wait. Interested to see Ewan McGregor in this role, seems very different to what I've seen him do before.

Daniel Isn't Real - Starring Miles Robbins, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Sasha Lane. A troubled college freshman, Luke, suffers a violent family trauma. He then resurrects his charismatic childhood imaginary friend Daniel to help him cope, not realizing how dangerous Daniel is.

If you can work out anything that's going on in that teaser trailer then please come back and explain it to me.

Dolittle - Starring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland and Emma Thompson. A physician discovers that he can talk to animals.

I love this story, but I love Eddie Murphy's Doctor Dolittle and I feel like this one is a little on the serious side. Still high up on my watchlist.

Mr Jones - Starring James Norton, Vanessa Kirby and Peter Sarsgaard. A Welsh journalist breaks the news in the western media of the famine in the Soviet Union in the early 1930s.

The trailer looks a lot like a few recent films that have come out, with some good casting in this I'm hoping that the film is a little more engaging.

Parasite - All unemployed, Ki-taek and his family take a peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks, as they ingratiate themselves into their lives and get entangled in an unexpected incident.

I caught this at Odeon's Screen Unseen before Christmas, it's being raved about from all corners but while I enjoyed it I wasn't wowed by what I saw. Definitely an interesting one to see though. [REVIEW]

Plus One - Starring Maya Erskine, Jack Quaid and Ed Begley Jr. In order to survive a summer of wedding fever, longtime single friends, Ben and Alice, agree to be each other's plus one at every wedding they've been invited to.

This looks like it's going to be a nice harmless sort of romcom, I'm not sure how I feel about Jack Quaid in this sort of role but I'm willing to find out.

Underwater - Starring Kristen Stewart, T.J. Miller and Jessica Henwick. A crew of aquatic researchers work to get to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. But the crew has more than the ocean seabed to fear.

If Deep Rising met Alien then a couple of episodes of Doctor Who. I don't feel like this is going to be a masterpiece, but you know what I'm like when it comes to creature features.

14th February 2020

Emma - Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Josh O'Connor and Tanya Reynolds. Based on the classic Jane Austen novel.

I'm not a lover of classic novels, even if they are this connected to me, I'll be interested to see it though as a lot of recent adaptations have taken on a certain flair that I wasn't expecting.

Fantasy Island - Starring Maggie Q, Michael Peña and Lucy Hale. A horror adaptation of the popular '70s TV show about a magical island resort.

Emma's picking a horror film as a must see? Is it an early April Fool? There are some Blumhouse movies that I really enjoy and some that I really don't *cough* Truth or Dare *cough*, but Fantasy Island looks like it might be entertaining. And I do love Michael Peña.

Sonic The Hedgehog - Starring Jim Carrey and James Marsden. Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world's speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth.

Oh come on, tell me you're not curious to see this too.

19st February 2020

The Call Of The Wild - Starring Harrison Ford. A sled dog struggles for survival in the Alaskan wild.

Another adaptation that I'm not familiar with, I love an adventure film but I'm not sure about that animation in this at all.

21st February 2020

Bloodshot - Starring Vin Diesel. Ray Garrison, a slain soldier, is re-animated with superpowers.

The Rock, Captain America, Demolition Man, Upgrade, just some of the films I got vibes of while watching the trailer for this. Hopefully, at the very least it will be a good throwaway action film.

Brahms: The Boy II - Starring Katie Holmes and Owain Yeoman. After a family moves into the Heelshire Mansion, their young son soon makes friends with a life-like doll called Brahms.

There was a first one of this? Nope, nope, nopety, nope.

Greed - Starring Steve Coogan and Isla Fisher. Satire about the world of the super-rich.

I passed up seeing this one at the LFF, it doesn't massively appeal but we'll see how it fairs at the Unlimited Screening during the week.

Like A Boss - Starring Rose Byrne, Tiffany Haddish and Salma Hayek. Two friends with very different ideals start a beauty company together. One is more practical while the other wants to earn her fortune and live a lavish lifestyle.

Cineworld put on an Unlimited Screening for this... it is... not great. [REVIEW]

Little Joe - Starring Emily Beecham and Ben Whishaw. Alice, a single mother, is a dedicated senior plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. Against company policy, she takes one home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe.

This is an interesting watch and has a great style about it, I saw this one last October, review coming soon.

The Public - Starring Alec Baldwin and Emilio Estevez. An act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati take over the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold.

Written, directed and starring Emilio Estevez this looks like it could be interesting, I'm not sure why it's taken so long to come out over here as it was released a year ago in other countries. Unsure where it might be available but I'd be intrigued to see it.

28th February 2020

Color Out Of Space - Starring Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson. A town is struck by a meteorite and the fallout is catastrophic.

An adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's short story of the same name. Cage gets a good opportunity to go almost full Cage in this, definitely worth experiencing.

Dark Waters - Starring Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway. A corporate defense attorney takes on an environmental lawsuit against a chemical company that exposes a lengthy history of pollution.

The trailer for this has been running so much at Cineworld that I'd be surprised if there wasn't an Unlimited Screening for it coming up. Change of pace for Ruffalo after so much Marvel content, it looks to be an interesting drama and brought to mind the recent TV series Burden of Truth.

Downhill - Starring Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Barely escaping an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps, a married couple is thrown into disarray as they are forced to reevaluate their lives and how they feel about each other.

Listed on IMDb as comedy and drama, if there's any comedy in this then they hid it well in the trailer.

The Invisible Man - Starring Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Aldis Hodge. When Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

More Blumhouse and another one that looks intriguing... and will no doubt make me super paranoid. I'm not a fan of Elisabeth Moss but the idea is trumping that at the moment.

Portrait Of A Lady On Fire - On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman.

Still annoyed with myself for giving this a miss at LFF so I've got everything crossed that I will get this at one of my local cinemas on its release.

True History Of The Kelly Gang - Starring George MacKay, Essie Davis, Russell Crowe and Nicholas Hoult. Based on Peter Carey's novel. The story of Australian bushranger Ned Kelly and his gang as they flee from authorities during the 1870s.

Hot off the back of 1917 George MacKay is giving us another historical piece as well as ANOTHER book adaptation for February. There are also a lot of familiar faces in the cast so I'm hoping for a  good surprise release with this one

Wendy - Starring Tommie Lynn Milazzo, Shay Walker and Stephanie Lynn Wilson. Lost on a mysterious island where aging and time have come unglued, Wendy must fight to save her family, her freedom, and the joyous spirit of youth from the deadly peril of growing up.

Another film inspired by a book, I don't quite get a clear idea of what the film might be like from the trailer but there's something there that hooks you in.

Happy watching!
