Synopsis
Groundhog Day would be fun, right? But how about if you died every day?
Review
When I originally saw Happy Death Day I had no idea what to expect. It has now become a firm favourite and it's one of my go to films if I want something on in the background while I'm doing things. Is it a masterpiece? No. But I love it for the twists and turns it throws in.
It's Groundhog Day meets Scream, and just as ridiculously fun as that sounds.
It helps a little that I don't really like Tree, so seeing her die over and over just leaves me amused more than anything. She's a spoilt sorority sister who let's face it still doesn't deserve Carter after her epiphany during her loop.
Of course there's one of the flaws (yes there are many but let's not be spoil sports about it) in HDD... could she change that much in such a short space of time? The only other issue that bugs me is that when she's in hospital and she's told there's lots of scarring from previous trauma. We know it's from the loop and so does she, she also points out that she's getting weaker... and yet she when she comes back in the loops afterward she's almost fine. But enough about my nit-picking.
As a switch your brain off teen slasher movie this is quite a good one. My Halloween line up will certainly have this one added to it.
The many deaths of Tree Gelbman
Having surfed the internet a bit and found some weirdly inaccurate lists I figured I might as well compile my own too. So here's the list of the deaths during Happy Death Day, not just those of Tree.

Sorority |
That should sum it up. We do however have one problem, and that's that when Tree threatens the cop so that she can get into Tombs' room she says "So is dying for the sixteenth time!" Which implies that her death count is already at 15, when we've only seen 9 at that point. It could just be an exaggeration in the heat of the moment or it could be true. We don't really know. She does have a pretty quick change of demeanor in some of the loops so it's entirely possible that we've missed out on some gruesome death scenes somewhere along the line.
And now to throw a spanner in the works... I've just watched the trailer for Happy Death Day 2U and Tree states that she died 11 times... seriously?! What are you doing to us?! This could mean that the "naked" day we see on day 7 does actually have it's own death that we don't see and the baseball bat incidents aren't the outcome.
What you should do
Definitely watch this one at some point. It's a fun film to watch with friends and then discuss all the ridiculous bits over drinks and cupcakes.
Movie thing you wish you could take home
The food at the dinner looks good. How about more proper American diners in the UK?
